Fugla Ness lighthouse is located just west of Hamnavoe on the island of West Burra, Shetland. The rocky outcrop on which the lighthouse is built acts as a natural breakwater, providing some shelter to the small harbour in Burra. The lighthouse was built in 1936, and was automatic from the begining. The tower is a concrete structure with a small square equipment building located next to it. The present lantern is a later addition, presumably replacing an earlier type, but is sympathetic to traditional Scottish lighthouse design, using tesselated triangular panes, with a conical roof. It is possible to walk to the lighthouse, but it can be viewed quite well from the village of Burra.
