Leverburgh

Leverburgh Lighthouse
Name:
Leverburgh
Height (ft):
30

Leverburgh lighthouse, now disused, was a small automatic lighthouse on a headland just West of Leverburgh, a small port at the Southernmost point of the Isle of Harris, from where ferries to and from Berneray, North Uist. The concrete tower is hollow, and the inside would likely have been used to store the fuel for the lamp.

Little information seems to be readilly available about the history of this small light. The lighthouse was derelict by the early 2000s, and in 2010, the lantern, which showed signs of deterioration, having been out of use for some time, was removed, along with the gallery railing.

The tower has since been repainted, retaining its white daymark, but is no longer lit. It can be reached on foot, but can also be seen well from the nearby pier in Leverburgh.
