Atop the cliffs on the eastern side of Loch Eriboll is a modern SPLAT (Solar Powered Lattice Aluminium Tower) structure. This light replaced an earlier cast iron pre-fab lighthouse which fuelled by Acetylene. White staining on the cliffs in front of the lighthouse is likely the result of calcium hydroxide, a byproduct of acetylene production, being poured over the cliffs.
The old light had reached the end of its servicable life by 2003, and was replaced by the current light tower, which is solar powered and fully automatic. The light can be viewed from the A838 road on the opposite side of Loch Eriboll.
